TRUCKEE AGRICULTURAL INSPECTION STATION GRAND OPENING

Highlighted by “Ribbon Busting” Ceremony

WHAT: The opening of the new Truckee Agricultural Inspection Station will feature a press conference followed by a truck busting through a ceremonial ribbon to dedicate the new facility. A media tour of the station will follow. The ceremony will be presided over by California Department of Food and Agriculture Secretary A. G. Kawamura and will include other state and local officials.

WHEN: Monday, July 9, 2007, 11:00 a.m.

WHERE: The new inspection station is located east of Truckee, near the California Highway Patrol weigh station.

WHY: California’s agriculture, environment and population are protected from invasive pests and diseases by a network of 16 agricultural inspection stations, each positioned on a major route entering the state.  The new Truckee inspection station will alleviate local traffic congestion during peak travel times and allow inspectors to better concentrate their efforts on vehicles presenting the greatest risks, such as those carrying travelers and cargo from other states.

DIRECTIONS: Approximately 4 miles east of Truckee on I-80 take the Overland Trail exit then follow signs to the ceremony.
