SACRAMENTO, October 16, 2007 - California Department of Food and Agriculture Secretary A.G. Kawamura has made the following statement about the U.S. House of Representatives passage of House Concurrent Resolution 25 (H. CON. RES 25):
“The U.S. House of Representatives has joined over 600 entities, as well as Governor Schwarzenegger and the California legislature, in endorsing the 25x’25 vision – that no later that January 1, 2025, the agricultural, forestry and working land of the United States should provide 25 percent of total energy consumption within the nation. I congratulate House Agricultural Committee Chairman Peterson and Ranking Member Goodlatte in passing this resolution and setting an important goal for California and the nation. This resolution recognizes the significant contribution that agricultural and our rural communities can make in renewable energy production.”
In September 2006, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger endorsed the 25x’25 initiative, the California legislature followed in September 2007. More information about the 25x’25 organization is available at www.25x25.org
