60 DAY PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD CONTINUES ON MOTH EIR

Written Comments Accepted Until Sept. 28

SACRAMENTO, September 9, 2009 - Californians interested in the statewide Environmental Impact Report for the Light Brown Apple Moth have until September 28 to submit their comments for the record.

The California Department of Food and Agriculture, which completed seven public comment sessions throughout the state last week, will continue to accept written comments via email and conventional mail until 5 p.m. Pacific Standard Time on Sept. 28, 2009. Please note: written (and email) comments are given the same weight and consideration as verbal comments.

The department held seven comment sessions in conjunction with the written comment period to give the public the best opportunity to address the EIR within the California Environmental Quality Act process.

The public can continue to participate by accessing the EIR online and sending comments via the internet, which is free at most public libraries. Members of the public are welcome to submit as many comments, as often as they wish. The complete EIR is available at local county libraries as well as online at http://www.cdfa.ca.gov/phpps/PDEP/lbam/envimpactrpt.html

Written comments should be sent at the earliest possible date, but not later than close of business on Monday, September 28, 2009 to: Jim Rains, Staff Environmental Scientist, California Department of Food and Agriculture, 1220 N Street, Sacramento, CA 95814, fax (916) 654-1018, or email LBAM_EIR@cdfa.ca.gov.

The department is using an extended 60-day comment period for the public instead of the standard 45-day period required under the California Environmental Quality
