CDFA ANNOUNCES VACANCIES ON THE SHELL EGG ADVISORY COMMITTEE

SACRAMENTO, November 27, 2012 – The California Department of Food and Agriculture is announcing two vacancies on the Shell Egg Advisory Committee.  This committee makes recommendations to the CDFA secretary on all matters pertaining to the Egg Safety and Quality Management Program, which includes quality standards, inspection uniformity, and enforcement provisions.

Committee vacancies are available for a public member and an alternate industry member representing the Southern California area. Applicants for the public member vacancy should not be a registered egg handler or be a representative of a registered egg handler. Applicants for the alternate industry member must be a registered egg handler or a representative of a registered egg handler in the Southern California area.  The term of office for a committee member is three years.  Members receive no compensation, but are entitled to reimbursement of necessary travel expenditures.

Individuals interested in being considered for the committee appointment should send a brief resume by December 31, 2012 to Anthony Herrera, California Department of Food and Agriculture – Egg Safety and Quality Management Program, 1220 N Street, Sacramento, California 95814.  Applicants need to specify which vacancy they are seeking.

The Egg Safety and Quality Management Program monitors egg quality at production, wholesale, and retail levels.  The goal is to provide California consumers with eggs that are wholesome, properly labeled, refrigerated, and of established quality, while maintaining fair and equitable marketing standards in the California egg industry. Local inspections are carried out by CDFA and staff from the County Agricultural Commissioner’s Office. CDFA provides supervision and training to the counties to ensure consistency and uniform application of standards throughout the State.
