CDFA ANNOUNCES VACANCIES ON NEW MARKET ENFORCEMENT COMMITTEE

SACRAMENTO, September 22, 2015 – The California Department of Food and Agriculture is seeking members to fill vacancies on the newly created Market Enforcement Committee (MEC). The MEC is an ad hoc committee that will meet and confer with the Market Enforcement Branch (MEB) on a variety of topics relative to the administration and enforcement functions of the branch.

The mission of the MEB is to objectively enforce laws enacted to ensure confidence and stability in the agricultural marketplace and to protect against unfair business practices between producers, handlers, and processors of California farm products.

MEC membership will include growers, processors, and produce dealers representing a diverse population of industries, geographically inclusive regions and varied farm product commodities. The term of office for committee members is ongoing until replaced or a vacancy occurs. Members receive no compensation, but are entitled to payment of necessary traveling expenses, once per year, in accordance with the rules of the state.

Individuals interested in being considered for a committee appointment should send a letter of interest and resume by October 16, 2015 to the California Department of Food and Agriculture – Market Enforcement Branch, 1220 N Street, Sacramento, CA 95814, Attn: Annaraine Diaz, Branch Chief, or via email annaraine.diaz@cdfa.ca.gov.
