CDFA SEEKS PUBLIC COMMENT ON PET LOVER'S LICENSE PLATE GRANT PROGRAM

SACRAMENTO, December 19, 2018 - The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) is seeking public comment on the proposed Request for Proposals and application materials developed for the 2018 Pet Lover’s License Plate Grant Program.

This program is supported by specialized license plates issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles, which charges specified additional fees for the issuance, renewal, or transfer of the license plates.

CDFA was authorized to administer the program under Senate Bill 673, which was sponsored by California Spay and Neuter License Plate Fund, Inc., and the California Veterinary Medical Board.

Funds awarded through a competitive grant process will be distributed to animal control agencies or nonprofit shelters that offer low-cost or no-cost animal sterilization services to prevent pet overpopulation in California.

To ensure an effective program, CDFA is asking for public comment and suggestions. (Please visit https://www.cdfa.ca.gov/SpayNeuter/ to review the proposed program materials.)

All interested parties may submit comments to grants@cdfa.ca.gov beginning December 19,  2018 at 5 p.m., until January 3, 2019 at 5 p.m. The input received will be published, unedited, on the CDFA Spay and
Neuter website: https://www.cdfa.ca.gov/SpayNeuter/, and considered when developing the 2018 Pet Lover’s License Plate Grant Program.
