Jon Gustafson
Jon Gustafson started his career with NRCS in 1998 as a field office rangeland management specialist in Petaluma California. Since then, he has served several roles for the Agency in California including:
- State Rangeland Management Specialist
- State Rangeland Ecologist
- Acting State Soil Scientist
- State Continuity of Operations Coordinator
In addition to various non-technical private sector jobs, Mr. Gustafson's prior federal service included working in California for the National Park Service and the US Forest Service as rangeland technician and wildland firefighter. Since starting with NRCS, Mr. Gustafson has engaged in a wide array of technical support work including:
- Developing enhancement guide sheets for the USDA Conservation Stewardship Program
- Evaluating conservation effects of conservation practices
- Contributing to the design of the Ecosystem Dynamics Interpretive Tool
- Numerous technical training roles for NRCS conservation planners
In his capacity as State Resource Conservationist, along with his staff of state level specialists, he provides statewide leadership and oversight in ensuring the technical capabilities for non-engineering conservation practices. Mr. Gustafson has spent most of his life in California with his formative years in Orcutt and has lived in Davis since 2005. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Rangeland Resource Science from Humboldt State University.
