Grape Pest and Disease Research
Since the beginning of the Pierce’s Disease Control Program, researchers have worked to find solutions to Pierce’s disease and its vectors, especially the glassy-winged sharpshooter. After the Pierce’s Disease and Glassy-winged Sharpshooter Board expanded their scope to include funding for research and outreach on other designated grape pests and diseases in 2010, new threats like viruses, mealybugs, spotted lanternfly and others have been added to the portfolio.
For many years, leading researchers, winegrape growers and other wine industry professionals gathered to share and discuss recent advances and discoveries at the Pierce’s Disease Research Symposium. The two-day program has included research talks, grower presentations, and roundtable discussions. A collection of year–end progress reports, known as the "Proceedings," was prepared and distributed at the Symposium. In recent years, a collection of brief project summaries has also been prepared and is titled "Research Projects at a Glance" and several researchers have recorded video reports summarizing their work. These documents and videos are available below.
