About the SFMNP

The Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) is a federally funded program administered nationally by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Services Agency and in California, by the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA). SFMNP benefits will be provided to eligible seniors. The goal of the California SFMNP is to provide fresh, nutritious, unprepared, locally grown produce, cut herbs, and raw honey through Certified Farmers' Markets to low-income seniors.

New in 2025: Benefits are Electronic

Starting in 2025 all benefits will be issued on cards. Some benefits of the new electronic system are:

  • Weekly automatic deposits/ no trips to the bank
  • Purchases in any dollar amount
  • More benefits available to spend at farmers’ markets
  • Year-round benefits available (WIC CVB only)
  • No more terminals for WIC CVB
  • View benefit transactions and payments on a secure online portal in real time

Farmer and Farmers’ Market Applications and Instructions

The California Department of Public Health/Women, Infants and Children Division (CDPH/WIC) trains, authorizes, and monitors California farmers and farmers’ markets on behalf of the CDFA. If you have received your Notice of Authorization from WIC, congratulations and thank you for supporting the program!
