Irrigation and Nitrogen Management Training for Grower Self-Certification
Program Description
The California Department of Food and Agriculture’s Irrigation and Nitrogen Management Training Program allows growers to self-certify Irrigation and Nitrogen Management Plan (INMP) Worksheets for their operation(s).Program Requirements
To complete the training program, participants must take the Self-Certification Training and pass the exam with 80% or greater. Upon successful completion of the training program, participants are eligible to self-certify INMP Worksheets for a 3-year period.
Training Workbook
Below you will find the Irrigation and Nitrogen Management Training Workbook. The workbook provides a guide to completing the INMP Worksheet and Summary Report along with additional resources on irrigation and nitrogen management.
The workbook can be used alongside the Irrigation and Nitrogen Management Training for Grower Self-Certification or on its own.
How to Take the Training and Exam
As of September 2022, the Irrigation and Nitrogen Management Training and Exam is available online.
Follow the link above and click the join button to create a new user log-in. Once you are logged into the platform the training and exam materials can be accessed through the “Take a Test” tab.
The training will take approx. 4-6 hours to complete. However, the training is self-paced and does not need to be completed in one sitting. Your progress will be saved if you decide to take a break and come back to it another day.
Once each module in the training has been completed, you will have access to take the exam. The exam is 30 questions multiple-choice and requires an 80% to pass. You will have 3 chances to pass the exam.
Once you have successfully completed the training and exam you will receive a letter via email within 2 weeks acknowledging your eligibility to self-certify INMP Worksheets for your farming operation(s).
Renewal Requirements
To renew their eligibility to self-certify, participants must complete 3 hours of continuing education during the 3-year eligibility period. If a participant does not obtain 3 hours of continuing education, they cannot renew and will be required to retake the Self-Certification Training and Exam to continue self-certifying INMP Worksheets.

California Nitrogen Management Specialty for CCAs
Program Description
The California Nitrogen Management Specialty is now available through the American Society of Agronomy (ASA). The specialty is for Certified Crop Advisors (CCA) looking to provide nitrogen management planning services to their clients and is required to certify Irrigation and Nitrogen Management Plans (INMP) for California farmers and ranchers. The California Nitrogen Management Specialty exam is being offered through ASA’s International CCA program beginning in February 2021. A CCA must pass the exam before being added to the state approved list of INMP certifiers, unless they have already participated in the California Department of Food and Agriculture’s Nitrogen Management Training for CCAs.
